When Life was Simple

When Life was Simple

Gone are the days when life was simple
Back in my native country
When I was a girl of seven
I was as happy as the birdies whistling up on trees
I romped around with kids my age,
Looking for stranded young birds
Separated from their mothers
Some of them fell from trees
We nursed them back to health
Put them back to their nests.
We never had TV and stereo
We only had the transistor radio
Powered by 9 Lives batteries
Because we did not have the electricity.
But I experienced an unusual happiness
That I could never find these days
But of course, that was then
Back then, when I was seven,
When life was simple.
